The attention migration nobody announced
There was no press release for this one. According to AMBCrypto, NFT activity has gradually decreased over the past year, with marketplace charts flattening out and trading clustering on a shrinking set of venues. Meanwhile the memecoin side of the ledger kept doing what it does: high turnover, short holds, constant rotation.
The report frames it as a preference shift rather than a verdict on art. Memecoins offer low transaction fees and fast settlement, which lets traders open and close positions quickly. NFTs, by contrast, ask for patience, higher upfront cost and longer holding periods β three things the average degen has never been accused of possessing.

The 2025 hangover behind it
Context matters. Decrypt's year-in-review noted that SOL printed an all-time high of $293.31 on 19 January 2025 and was trading at $127.70 by 15 December, roughly 56% off that peak. $TRUMP, the token that kicked the whole year off, was down about 93% from its high to $5.33. A lot of the 2025 memecoin cohort simply did not survive the round trip.
What it means for degens
The useful read here is not bullish or bearish, it is structural. Liquidity in late 2025 gravitated to whatever could be entered and exited in seconds, and on Solana that means memecoins. If that holds into the new year, expect the same pattern: violent rotations between tickers, thin conviction, and a lot of volume that never settles anywhere for long. Position sizing beats prediction in a market like that.
