Solana's Plumbing Week: 250M USDC Minted, ETF Fees Set at 0.14%

Not a memecoin in sight, but July 18 brought a quarter-billion in fresh USDC, a fee number from Morgan Stanley, and a Grayscale filing update on staking rewards.

Boring week, load-bearing news

No rug, no viral launch, no influencer coin. What July 18 delivered instead was infrastructure, and infrastructure is what memecoin traders are standing on whether they think about it or not.

Circle minted 250 million USDC on Solana, taking the year-to-date figure to 70.26 billion minted, according to CoinMarketCap's Solana news feed. Fresh stablecoin supply on a chain is the least exciting bullish datapoint that exists: it is simply dry powder arriving where the trading happens.

  • 250M USDC minted on Solana, July 18
  • 70.26B USDC minted on the chain so far this year
  • Morgan Stanley ETH and SOL ETF fees: 0.14%
  • Grayscale files to pass staking rewards through to Solana ETF shareholders

The ETF details that actually matter

Morgan Stanley pricing its Ethereum and Solana products at 0.14% puts $SOL exposure in the same fee bracket as mainstream index funds. Grayscale's updated proposal, meanwhile, would let shareholders receive staking rewards rather than leaving that yield on the table. Both are competitive moves in a market where the product is identical and the differentiators are cost and yield.

What it means for degens

There is a version of this ecosystem where the institutional layer and the casino layer drift apart. There is another where cheap ETF access and deep on-chain stablecoin liquidity keep feeding the same order books. July 18 was a data point for the second version. It is not a trade, it is context: the thing to track from here is whether stablecoin supply keeps expanding while memecoin volume does.
