SOL drops 9% as bitcoin plunges below $66,000

A crypto-only drawdown

The usual excuse for a crypto selloff is that risk assets are down everywhere. Not this week. Per CoinDesk, bitcoin dropped 6.4% to $65,708 and is off 12.3% on the week, with ether under $1,900 after a 7.9% daily and 11.1% weekly decline β€” all while the MSCI All Country World Index printed fresh all-time highs on the back of the AI rally.

Solana took it harder than the majors. CoinDesk puts SOL down 9.0% to $73.25, with dogecoin off 8.3% to $0.0921. That beta relationship is the whole thesis of a Solana memecoin position, and it cuts both ways.

The supply overhang list

  • Spot bitcoin ETF outflows have now crossed $3.2 billion, per CoinDesk
  • Mt. Gox moved $739 million to a new wallet
  • CoinDesk flags $65,000 as key technical support, with $60,000 the next level if it breaks

What it means for degens

When SOL underperforms bitcoin by several points in a single session, the memecoin book underperforms SOL by a multiple of that. There is no clever rotation here β€” the entire Solana speculative stack is a leveraged expression of the same trade, and this week that trade is losing to an equity index.
