Thirty percent of the float, gone
The Solana launchpad announced its latest repurchase on X earlier this week: $8.52 million of $PUMP bought back, bringing the cumulative total to $328 million. Per Yahoo Finance's report, the program has now removed close to 30% of the circulating supply from the open market, funded by the fees Pump.fun collects on token creation and trading.
The part the buyback threads tend to skip: PUMP was trading at $0.002073, roughly 70% below its price at inception. Retiring a third of the float has not made the chart go up. It has made the float smaller while demand did whatever demand was going to do.

Analysts say that the token buybacks are leading to scarcity of the PUMP token and helping to push its price higher.

That is the bull case as reported. The counter-case is arithmetic: a buyback funded by platform fees is a bet on sustained launch volume, and launch volume on Solana is the single most cyclical number in crypto. Buybacks remain rare in this sector, and the report frames the scale of Pump.fun's as a sign of maturation in the memecoin business β which is a strange sentence to write, but here we are.
What it means for degens
Supply reduction is a real mechanism, not a magic one. Treat the buyback as a read on the platform's revenue rather than a signal about the token: it tells you fees are still coming in, which tells you people are still launching and trading coins. Meanwhile the chain itself had a decent week β SOL at $88.13 on March 20, up 9.7% β even as spot Bitcoin ETFs turned negative with $52.1 million of outflows that day, a third consecutive down session.
