Memecoins are 63% of Solana DEX activity as SOL runs 16%

The 'grown-up chain' still runs on jokes

Every few weeks someone argues Solana has moved past memecoins. Then the data lands. Per AMBCrypto, memecoins made up 63% of DEX activity on the network, averaging around $4 billion in daily trading volume — the highest in seven months. That is not a leftover, that is the main product.

The rest of the picture is genuinely institutional. Stablecoin supply on Solana hit a $15 billion all-time high, roughly 200% up from $7.5 billion in 2025, and tokenised real-world assets reached $1.13 billion with a 20% gain over 30 days. On 16 January the network accelerated multi-chain asset listings, adding four new assets directly on the layer-1.

By introducing new assets directly on its L1, Solana is clearly targeting deeper liquidity. In turn, supporting higher on-chain activity and strengthening the ecosystem.

What it means for degens

The strategy described here — stack every asset type on one chain and let them share liquidity — is a centralised-exchange playbook running on a decentralised ledger. For traders that has a concrete consequence: the stablecoin depth being built for RWAs and institutional flow is the same depth your memecoin pair quotes against. Deeper books mean less slippage on the way in and, more importantly, on the way out. The 63% figure also sets expectations honestly. If memecoin volume cools, a large share of Solana's DEX activity cools with it, whatever the RWA chart is doing.
