Ten days, one round trip
The memecoin sector spent the first stretch of 2026 doing a convincing impression of a recovery. Per AMBCrypto, total memecoin capitalisation climbed from roughly $36 billion in mid-December to $44.69 billion, having already tagged near $48 billion in early January β so the print at the time of writing was a pullback from the high, not a fresh one. Volume was the tell: up 17.42% to $4.75 billion.
- BONK: +27.78% over seven days, roughly $131 million in daily volume
- PEPE: +17.10%, with about $621 million daily volume
- SHIB: +15.31%, around a $5.1 billion market cap
- WIF: +28.86% β FARTCOIN: +38.64% β PENGU: +19.84%
Bitcoin holding above $90,000 gave the whole thing room to breathe, and the report credits post-holiday retail optimism, tax-loss-harvest effects and Solana's low-fee execution for the rotation.
What it means for degens
A $4.75 billion daily volume figure across the sector sounds enormous until you notice how much of it sits in a handful of tickers β PEPE alone is quoted near $621 million a day. Down the cap curve, the liquidity thins fast, which is why the same 30% move feels tradeable on BONK and feels like an exit interview on a mid-tier name. Depth, not percentage, is the number that decides whether you actually get out at the price you screenshotted.
