The passive bid took the month off
According to CoinDesk, bitcoin traded around $72,700 on June 1, negative for the sixth time in seven days, with ether down roughly 1% alongside it. The CoinDesk 20 Index fell 2%. Behind the price action sits the number that actually matters: a record 10 straight days of net outflows from spot bitcoin ETFs, adding up to $2.97 billion.
May had already been unkind. CoinDesk notes bitcoin fell 3.5% last month against a historical May average gain of 7.4%. Liquidations over the preceding 24 hours came to $282 million, split roughly 60% longs and 40% shorts β messy, but not a capitulation event.
One green candle worth noting
The day's outlier had nothing to do with dogs, cats or hats. CoinDesk reports $XLM surged 40.4% to $0.2862 after DTCC said it will connect its tokenized securities platform to Stellar in the first half of 2027, making it the first public blockchain in DTCC's multichain strategy. Market cap cleared $9.6 billion and spot turnover hit $2.3 billion, up 34%. $HYPE also added 1.26% to a record $73.94.

What it means for degens
Capital is still moving β it is just moving toward things with an institutional press release attached. When the passive bid under bitcoin is net negative for ten sessions running, the speculative tail of the market gets thin fast, and Solana's launchpads are about as far out on that tail as it gets.
