The numbers behind the meme machine

Whatever you think of it, the scale is not in dispute. Per CoinDesk, pump.fun cleared over $150 billion in cumulative volume, hit a peak monthly revenue of $138 million with daily spikes as high as $15 million, and by mid-2025 accounted for more than 80% of all tokens deployed on Solana.

The product itself is almost insultingly simple: launch a token in seconds for less than two cents' worth of SOL, no code required. That is how you get $FARTCOIN, Goatseus Maximus and Peanut the Squirrel going from nothing to market caps in the hundreds of millions, and CoinDesk names all three.

The part that goes in the footnotes

  • The vast majority of tokens collapsed shortly after launch.
  • Long-term holders were rare β€” CoinDesk's phrasing, not ours.
  • Analysts flagged rising retail losses through the year.
  • US lawsuits alleged fraud and securities violations.
  • Revenue fell 80% from peak once the hype cycle rolled over.

What it means for degens

"Most influential" is not a compliment and CoinDesk does not write it as one. The useful takeaway is the shape of the curve: a launchpad can dominate an entire chain's token supply and still watch four-fifths of its revenue evaporate inside a year, because launchpad economics are a pure function of how much risk appetite is in the room. The infrastructure survives the cycle. The tokens minted on it mostly do not.
