Bitcoin breaks $60,000 to its lowest level since 2024

Bitcoin slid below $60,000 midday Thursday to its lowest level since 2024, with Yahoo Finance pointing to ETF outflows, CLARITY Act delay risk and rotation into AI stocks.

Through the floor

Wednesday already opened at the lowest levels in about two weeks. Thursday went further. Yahoo Finance reports bitcoin opening at $60,983.43, down 2.7% from Wednesday's open, then sliding below $60,000 midday and reaching $59,334.00 by 12:37 p.m. ET β€” its lowest level since 2024, with the selloff spreading across the crypto market.

The drivers Yahoo Finance lists are structural rather than technical: ETF outflows, a potential delay to the CLARITY Act, and capital leaving crypto for other assets β€” AI equities in particular. None of those reverse on a candle.

The regulatory line item

Of the three, the CLARITY Act is the one memecoin traders should read twice. The bill would split oversight between the SEC and CFTC and set a test for when a token counts as a commodity rather than a security β€” which is to say, it draws the line that most memecoins currently sit ambiguously on. Delay means the ambiguity stays.

What it means for degens

There is no version of a Solana meme rally that starts with bitcoin at four-year price levels and ETF flows running out the door. This is the part of the cycle where the honest answer is that the sector is illiquid, the launchpads are quiet, and the interesting question is which projects still have a team shipping when the tape eventually turns.
