Schwab is adding SOL while the dog coins bleed

Solana led the majors on Charles Schwab listing news as the wider market went nowhere. Dogecoin fell 7.2% in the same week.

A flat week with a split personality

Bitcoin.com News describes a choppy session in which bitcoin and the major altcoins pulled back from multi-week highs before recovering late. The net result was nothing much: the total market closed August 29 at $2.73 trillion, roughly where it started. That is a sharp contrast to the prior week, when digital assets added more than $500 billion in value in seven days.

Under that flat surface, the dispersion was brutal. Altcoin market cap rose just over 4% β€” from $1.13 trillion at the start of the week to $1.18 trillion on August 29 β€” but the gains were concentrated. SOL rallied on the Schwab news. XRP fell nearly 7%, Dogecoin dropped 7.2%, and ADA, XLM and BCH each lost more than 10%.

  • SOL β€” led the majors, buoyed by Schwab's planned listing alongside AVAX and LINK
  • DOGE β€” down 7.2% on the week
  • XRP β€” down nearly 7%
  • ADA, XLM, BCH β€” each down more than 10%

What it means for degens

A brokerage listing is the least degen catalyst imaginable, and it still beat every dog coin on the board this week. That is the tell. When the bid is coming from access-driven flows rather than risk appetite, it lands on the base layer asset and stops there β€” it does not trickle down into $DOGE or the long tail of Solana memes.
